Abstract The individual preferences of 170 consumers in six categories of age (20s, 30s, 40s) and gender (men, women) for 24 domestic, imported or specialty lager beers, tasted first blind and then with knowledge of brand and price, were investigated by preference mapping techniques. Internal preference mapping revealed differences in the preferences of consumers, with some consumers preferring domestic or ice beers, and others preferring specialty or imported beers. This work describes a Virtual Reality Environment (VRE), through which users are able to view and test ceramic tile products. Users' virtual interfacing with the products generated emotional experiences that allowed them to feel ''engaged'' with the products. Users could choose between different kinds of products and test them out in order to know how they would look in a real-world context. International audience; An European Union (EU)-funded project QLK1-CT-2001-00930 (BIOSAFEPAPER) involves the development, validation and intercalibration of a short-term battery of toxicological tests for the safety assessment of food-contact paper and board. Dissemination of the results to industry, legislators (e.g. DG Consumer Protection, DG Enterprises, DG Research), standardization bodies such as CEN, and consumers will create an agreed risk evaluation procedure. Abstract This chapter aims at briefly reviewing applications of sensory descriptive testing methods with children, as well as their limits in relation to the cognitive development of children.
